Smaller firms face stress management problems
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
According to director Neil Shah, larger companies are better equipped to manage stress and also find it easier to manage holiday entitlement. Mr Shah pointed out that the stresses faced in a small business are "very different" to those experienced in large organisations.
"Primarily because in a small business your role can be more flexible, it may not be so rigid," he explained.
"In a large organisation you're part of a larger machine so everyone has a specific role to play. Whereas in a smaller company…it may mean that you're doing more than one job, or your role can vary from day to day."
New figures from Bank of Scotland Business Banking have also revealed that owners of small start-up firms are particularly likely to work long hours, with the average entrepreneur working for over 47 hours a week.
