'Stress means workers can't switch off'

Tuesday, August 21, 2007
The figures, produced by Harvey Nash, suggest that 64 per cent of 2,000 senior executives surveyed by the company logged on to access the latest office happenings while on their summer break.
Most hard-working executives also admitted to checking in with their employer at the weekend as well as when they are on holiday, while nearly one in ten said they work at least three weekends a month.
The dedication exhibited by employees was attributed by the respondents to increasing stress and work loads, with 11 per cent saying they feel stressed at least once a week.
Chief executive officer at Harvey Nash Albert Ellis commented: "There's no doubt that we're all receiving more emails and more demands on our time than ever before.
"But constant checking in and regular weekend working is a false economy - if you don't take a proper break your productivity is bound to suffer in the long run."
